Stopped To Look Up

Stop to Look Up
You may find it surprising that this photograph was taken from the parking lot of a suburban hardware store.  It was one of those moments when one is feeling alright, their equilibrium is aligned and they take a moment to look up and capture an aerial scene of Mama Earth & Mother Nature at their finest.  The setting sun and the early evening clouds aligned beautifully and created a scene that just had to be captured.

If it's funny, laugh out loud

at the end of the tunnel,
just might be you.

An August Lakeside View

A room with a view is a wonderful thing but a panoramic view from a pathway within the Chicago Museum Campus can be breathtaking; even under pre-storm rain clouds.  This image was captured during a rest and walk break after a 25 mile bike ride from a northwest suburb to the Adler Planetarium.  It was a perfect day and a great ride because the 25 mile ride home was finished just before the storm clouds opened up.

An August 13th Lakeside View

Oh yeah, the mountain bike, so prominently featured in the photograph gets the photographer around Chicago and in a good number of places that cars, just can’t go.

Cat's Eye

Cairo's Haunting Alluring Cat Eyes
Cairo Max-A-Million, an adorable, fluffy, crossed-eyed Ragamuffin, served a haunting yet alluring look that I was able to capture right as he was waking from a nap in his new forever home.

This little cutie was rescued from a Florida animal shelter, one day before he was scheduled to be euthanized.  Cairo ended up in that shelter because he was victimized by an uncaring, breeder who has a history of throwing kittens, not born to spec, out into the streets.  The insensitivity of this breeder stems from pure greed, as Ragamuffins born with one blue eye and one yellow eye will, apparently, sell for more than those born like Cai, who has two beautiful blue (adorably crossed) eyes.

It is heartbreaking to watch the abuse of animals in an ASPCA commercial but after spending time with little Cairo, a real-life victim, my heartbreak was accompanied by rage.  I’d welcome the opportunity to step into a battle cage (with my Cairo t-shirt) and give that breeder a little abuse; it’d be a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome event, “two man enter, one Woman (me) leave.”  Cairo is so worth it as he is an adorable little shorty with big banana paws and the cutest little pink kitten ears and button nose; it is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that the breeder shoved him, while he was a defenseless, newborn kitten, out the back door and into the streets (during Florida’s rainy season, no less). But he is a trooper because he survived and made it through with a viral infection and couple of broken teeth (probably from trying to eat hard, inedible street trash) but no worse for wear.

It did not take long for Cairo’s rescuing foster parent to find him a forever home, as after being seen on PetFinder by a his future Human Mother in Chicago, it was a done deal.  Over the internet, via email and by phone, arrangements were made and, a few days later, Cairo was cuddled up in a pet carrier, riding in the backseat of a car that was on its way from Florida to Chicago, IL.
Cairo's Haunting Alluring Cat Eyes
Cairo (aka Cai Baby) came a very long way in short period of time; he went from dumpster diving to stepping out of a pet carrier onto a plush white carpet in his new, high-rise, forever home with a panoramic view of lake Michigan, not bad, not bad at all.
